But I've concluded the statement itself contained more accuracy than he recognized, even if his motivations were primarily self-serving. What makes science exceptional is its participants. The gradual, persistent, occasionally difficult process through which confused students transform into independent thinkers. If we employ these tools to circumvent that process favoring accelerated output, we don't merely risk losing scientific exceptionalism. We eliminate the only inherently irreplaceable component.
